Kathy Brandt has been hooked
on mysteries since she picked up The Secret of the Old Clock when she was
about 10. Now, if she doesn’t
have a mystery on her bedside table, she goes into withdrawal. Her leap
from reading mysteries to writing them was inevitable. She knew by the
time she closed the pages on that first Nancy Drew book that she would someday
write her own stories.
Kathy’s mystery series, featuring police diver Hannah Sampson, debuted in October 2003 with Swimming with the Dead, published by Signet/Penguin, quickly followed by Dark Water Dive (July 2004), Dangerous Depths (May 2005), and Under Pressure (June 2006). Kathy is now hard at work on book number five.
The Caribbean setting and the
focus on underwater crime investigation was
a natural for Kathy. A certified diver, she and her husband have been
sailing and scuba diving in
the islands for 20 years. They live in the
mountains of Colorado.
Kathy has a BA in English and
an MA in Rhetoric and Composition. She taught non-fiction writing at the
University of Colorado for ten years and has published dozens of articles in
national magazines such as Women’s Sports and Fitness, Complete
Woman, Sailing, Yachting, Heartland Boating, and Scouting
Magazine. She is a member of Mystery
Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and the Pike's Peak Writers. |
